I found this on my now-defunct high school's website this morning while waiting for the sun to come up so I could go for a walk. As a graduating senior in '73, I was oblivious to most of these costs of living, except the price of gas. Yet, I still remember paying 29 cents at the pump (on the corner of 75th & State Line, for you Kansas City readers). Did they have gas wars in those days? And what the heck was an AMC Javelin? Was that like a Gremlin?

Ah, the good old days! Those prices still seem right to me, and today's prices seem crazy. I don't know about that car, though.
A Javelin was bit sportier than the Gremlin. The Gremlin was similar to the tiny Ford Pinto. Both later proven "death traps" with their vulenarable exploding rear gas tanks! Yikes.
I remember there was a dumpy gas station in Wyandotte Co. that would run gas for 24.5 cents. Fond memories of collecting quarters from everyone and filling up. Can you imagine? Thanks for the memories! Fun.

Did you grow up in Wyandotte Co. or just go there to buy cheap gas? I remember pooling friends' quarters, too, which didn't take much in my VW Beetle. Those were the days before self serve. I remember how intimidated I was the first time I filled my tank. Made everyone in my car put their cigarettes out!
