Happy Labor Day!

My column today gives a nod to Labor Day and my first real job at Hickory Farms where I actually broke a commandment to get hired. My plans for the rest of the weekend involve laboring over the summer's last batch of pesto and the selection of new ceiling fans. (And I may have to pick up some Beef Stick and Sweet Hot Mustard, while I'm at it.)

Great column. You upselling cheese. Maybe wearing a hairnet. Love it!

I think it was one of those 'only over the ponytail' hairnet affairs, which is only slightly better than the Ruth Buzzi look.

Simplicity in design is not about stripping away detail—it is about making intentional choices that eliminate unnecessary complexity. A minimalist water bottle emphasizes the essentials: smooth surfaces, well-balanced proportions, and neutral, versatile colors. This thoughtful approach enhances usability while creating a timeless, elegant appearance.

In daily life, simplicity translates to ease and practicality. A bottle free from excessive patterns, bulky features, or distracting elements feels refined and purposeful, seamlessly fitting into office spaces, gym bags, kitchen counters, or travel gear. By prioritizing clean design, the bottle conveys confidence in its quality, letting its functionality and performance take center stage without relying on flashy aesthetics.
