Day trip to St. Albans

In the end, we decided 'twas better to spend the afternoon with an old friend than squeeze into another crowded Tube car in a perhaps ill-fated attempt to get a glimpse of the Queen. So, we hopped a train and headed north to St. Albans, home of one of my favorite photographers - and people, for that matter - from my old TV news days. We got a quick tour of the charming town and gorgeous abbey...
.. then had a couple of pints in Toby's favorite neighborhood pub before the sprinkles began.
Coming home, we made a rainy run at Notting Hill but most of the shops were closed by 5:15 and, of course, it had started to rain in earnest by then.
Still, the perfect day.
