I think that's why God invented Massage Envy, locations nationwide, and a margarita! We are having a home in Austin remodeled to be our retirement place. Will meet with the architect on Monday to go over the plans. I am interested on your thoughts about appliance selections, etc. So many choices, but want to keep the overall design simple and timeless. ps. Who is Dwight Schrute?
M, Dwight Schrute is a character from "The Office" TV sitcom. Our goal with the kitchen was the same - timeless, simple, modern yet 'old world' to complement the rest of the house. My friends who went the Viking/other upper-end appliance route all say they regret it, due to repair/parts costs, so I chose mid-range stainless pieces - each one a different brand, but with similar designs, esp handle style. In our layout, no two appliances will share a wall, so I didn't think brand continuity was necessary.) I shopped around for deals, read reviews online and pumped the salesmen for info. Another goal was to keep the 'work' area of the kitchen separate from the 'entertaining' area. If it works, our guests will stay in the other half of the kitchen, by the wet bar (because people never stray far from the booze), so I can work without interference. That's a big 'if,' of course, but a girl can dream. Retiring in Austin sounds divine.
BG, Would love to know what appliances you decided on. I totally agree on the Viking/Wolf issues. If I chose a $7k stove I would feel compelled to cook everyday, and who needs that pressure? LOL Thanks, Marg ps. Chocolate rules, enjoy the event.
Frigidaire Gallery Series double convection oven. Bosch 4-burner gas cooktop (could have gone with 5 or 6 burners, but I rarely use 4 simultaneously). My model has a landing space between the back burners. KitchenAid dishwasher with controls on front (not top of door which appear invisible when closed -- didn't trust that, for some reason) And, just purchased at Home Depot today, LG French door frig with 2 freezer drawers, based on $1000+ off price and online reviews.'Nervous about this one, but I bought the 4-year extended warranty which covers everything. Probably a stupid choice, but it was just $79.
